Customize Your Face Oil For AM and PM

Problem: Fine lines, dullness, and 10/10 dryness.

Need: Jojoba oil, maracuja oil, The Buff ‘Beauty Booster’ in Geranium, The Buff ‘Beauty Booster’ in Lemon (available exclusively at Urban Outfitters, $12). Two 15ml/ 5 oz glass vials (try Etsy).

We’re not about to suggest setting up a craft table or skincare lab in your apartment, but there are simple ways to tweak your beauty products to make them more suited to your skin’s changing mood. Case in point: This easy-to-blend face oil that you can customize for morning or night by simply tweaking a couple of ingredients.

Morning Oil:

There are certain attributes about morning beauty oils that aren’t up for debate. It should be super fast-drying, so that any makeup can be applied within minutes following the face oil. It should leave your skin glowing and fresh—not sticky or greasy. Finally, you want a blend that won’t make you more sensitive to the sun. (Remember, sun damage = fine lines, pigmentation, and more.)

Glow on. Get blending:

Step one: Fill ¾ of your 15ml vial with jojoba oil. Look for cold-pressed, unrefined blends (ta-da!) for the best quality. Why jojoba? It’s noncomedogenic (meaning it won’t block your pores), basically scentless, cleverly locks in moisture to make your skin look and feel ultra-glowy, and can even help minimize the appearance of fine lines and scars.

Step two: Add two drops of The Buff Beauty Booster in Geranium. If your skin is sensitive, stay here. Otherwise, add another one or two drops. Be careful, guys: Adding too much of an essential oil can irritate your skin, and you really don’t need much to reap the benefits.

Step three: Gently shake your new blend.

Step four: Apply two or three drops directly to clean skin or mix a drop into your foundation for a super-dewy finish.

Night Oil:

Before bed, it doesn’t matter if your skin’s just a little shinier than normal, right? It’s more important that you wake up with glowing, hydrated, healthy skin. For this reason you can apply a richer oil and really let the formula go to work on your complexion overnight. There’s also zero chance of sunburn in the PM, which is a great time to use lemon essential oil.

Step one: Fill ½ of your 15ml vial with jojoba oil. Again, look for cold-pressed, unrefined blends (like so!) for the best quality.

Step two: Fill ¼ of your 15ml vial with maracuja oil, remembering cold-pressed is best. While maracuja (AKA passionfruit seed) oil is just a little richer and thicker than jojoba, it’s worth it. Naturally rich in skin-brightening vitamins and restorative essential fatty acids, it gives a dewy, radiant finish.

Step three: Add three—four drops of The Buff Beauty Booster in Lemon to help manage the appearance of fine lines and hyperpigmentation, and get your brightest, glowiest skin ever.

Step four: Apply a couple of drops to clean skin, as a final step after using a serum, or mixed into your moisturizer.

blend your own Glow + Grow Hair Treatment

Problem: Frizzy, dry hair. Locks that scream for attention.

Need: Argan oil, The Buff ‘Beauty Booster’ in Grapefruit, (available exclusively at Urban Outfitters, $12). One 15ml/ 5 oz glass vials (try Etsy).

There are three ways to use a hair oil. Rub one or two drops between your palms and rub sparingly on the mids and ends of wet hair before heat styling to protect and add gloss (trust us, you’ve never seen hair so shiny). Or, follow the same process on dry, styled hair for more super-charged shine and to control frizz

There’s another way to use your hair oil too: As a scalp treatment. Apply about 7-8 drops all over your scalp, and massage it in using circular motions. Use a comb to brush the oil through your hair, then hold off washing your hair until the following morning. Leaving it on overnight will give hair time to soak up all the good-for-you ingredients while boosting circulation to the scalp for healthy hair growth.

Now you know how to use it, here’s how to make it:

Step one: Fill ¾ of your 15ml vial with argan oil. This lightweight, fast-absorbing oil will a deliver shampoo commercial-worthy sheen.

Step two: Add two drops of Beauty Booster in Grapefruit. (Doesn’t it smell good?!)
